1. How far back in history have people used pictures to tell stories?  Give 2 examples.

2. How does Dr. Michael Bitz define the Comic Book Project?

3. What are some important themes students are using for their comic books? Tell an important theme you feel strongly about that you might want to share in your own comic book.  Why is this theme important to you?

3. After students create their comic books what does the Comic Book Project do with them?

4. What does a comic book consist of?  What is the format of a comic book?

5. What are the boxes called that the writing and pictures are placed in?

6. The panels are read in sequence.  What does the word ‘sequence” mean?

7. Dr. Bitz states that you can either write the story or draw the pictures first in a comic book.  Which do you think you would do first?  Do you see yourself as more of an artist or a writer?

8. What is your favorite comic book, comic strip, or super hero?  Why do you like it?

9.  Many comics have super heroes who have super powers.  If you could have a super power what would it be and why did you choose it?

10. The Comic Book Project’s contest this year is “If I ruled the World...”  If you ruled the world what problem would you fix first?  Why?  How would you fix it?

 

Activities

1. Under the Comic Book Project video are some comic websites for kids.  Explore them.  Report back to the class something interesting you learned.

2. Click on Hey Kids and print out some comic book formats or ask your teacher for some.  Create your own comic strip or book.  (Maybe pairing with a partner.)  Act it out or read it to the class.  (Maybe you can submit it to one of the websites!)

3. Read a comic book.  (What is its message? What did you like about it?)  Write a review of it for your class.
