MEET ME AT THE CORNER: A Kid’s History of the Banjo

  1. Describe the origins of the banjo. Where did it originate and when?
  2. Design a graphic organizer comparing and contrasting the early banjos with modern banjos.
  3. What is unique about blue grass music?
  4. In this episode, Curtis Eller says that playing an instrument is “another way to learn to communicate with other people.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Support you answer with specific details.
  5. What is the difference between blue grass and jazz? Create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the two.
  6. Choose five different types of music (example: classical, rock, rap, country, blue grass). Design a survey to find out what kind of music you like. Be sure to include blue grass in your survey. Survey at least twenty people (family and friends). Make a bar graph to show your results. Don’t forget labels!
