This is the kind of story that poems are made from. Describe a time in your life that seemed magical to you. Emma and Bobbi Katz recall how exciting it was to learn to read. What do you remember about your early experience of learning to read? 5. As a child, Bobbi Katz made up a lot of rhymes. Write down 2 words and then make a list for each of as many words as you can think of that rhyme with them. 6. Define ‘stanza’? 7. What is a Pantoum? 8. Why do you think a form of poetry would choose to repeat a line from one stanza to the next? (How do you think it makes the poem “Imagine” better?) 9. Ms. Katz compares the stars in infinity to the World Wide Web (the internet). How do you think these two very different things are related? (How are they alike?) *Extra Credit: This kind of comparison is called a “metaphor”. Look up its definition. Can you give another example of a metaphor? Activities A) Write your own poem. (You can get ideas from a poetry book or the link poetry4kids Or if you’re really ambitious, use the link “How to write a pantoum”) B) Look through some poetry books or poetry websites and find a poem you like. Why do you like it? Read it aloud to the class.
