Everybody Eats Lunch: Interview with cookbook author Cricket Azima
  • Questions:
    1. What are four subject areas that you can learn from cooking?
    2. Give one example of what you can learn from cooking in each of the following subject areas: (The first one is done for you.)

      Geography: You can learn the country, location and climate of where the food comes from.

    3. Name two meals that you like that come from different cultures and tell what cultures they come from.
    4. Choose 3 of the following common foods we eat. Look them up in the dictionary and write down where each of the foods’ names come from and the root meaning of the word: cereal, hamburger, frankfurter, spaghetti, crepe
    Activities:
    1. Find a simple recipe you’d like to try making from a cookbook or on line. See if you can point out what you learn about the following subjects as you make this recipe: Geography, Nutrition, Math, Science.
    2. Cricket Azima has written a book called Everybody Eats Lunch. Write a short recipe book of your own called Everybody Eats Breakfast. In it, put a few menu items that kids like to eat for breakfast, a recipe you find for each, a picture of the food (which you can draw or cut out) and a few sentences on each item using some of the subject areas talked about in the video (like where each breakfast food comes from, what math is involved in making it, the food’s nutritional values, etc.)
